Aly Visits DC!

I was so excited when Aly said she was flying out to visit. It's been way too long since we've gotten some QT!

Since she is my 1/2 marathon partner, I decided it only made since to get a run in the afternoon she arrived. We met up with Angela and hit the Mt. Vernon trail. The only thing I hadn't thought of was it was slightly hot, extremely humid and the sun was beating down on us. In other words, Aly wasn't my biggest fan after trying to bust out 4 miles in the heat. Oops.

But we did follow it up by hitting Bdubs and grabbing a beer (and the best tasting glass of water). Sounded good at the time - not an hour later when we still hadn't eaten. We scarfed down some pizza and settled in at home with Nate to watch MSU.... sadly lose. It wasn't the best uplifting first day for Aly.

Determined to have a better day, the next morning we set out to check out the Cherry Blossoms. Luckily they bloomed weeks early and at the exact time Aly came to visit. Before getting to the tidal basin, we joined Julie and Lexi to meet Nate and Jonathan for lunch.

Julie had just taken a bunch of pictures of Lex by the blossoms - she's such a cutie! She took one look at Aly, realized she was dressed head to toe in pink and instantly gravitated towards her. Aly had pink in her hair, a pink head band, pink shirt, pink shorts, and pink socks. What 3 year old wouldn't notice that immediately?

After lunch, we first hit the new MLK memorial.

Then the beautiful blossoms!

Fun with photo editing :)

Aly blended in with the blossoms in all pink :)

We also meant to spend a day hitting up the museums but that proved to be impossible with the tourist crowds in town for the blossoms so we made our way (through the ghetto) to the arboretum. We had more fun screwing around, naturally. But it was beautiful.

Don't ask....

Getting back to running goals, I had 9 miles on my running schedule for that Sunday so somehow I convinced Aly to give it a try. I told her we would only attempt 8. Back to the Mt. Vernon trail where we started next to the airport, out to Rosslyn, around the Roosevelt Island, and back. We kept the pace slow and comfortable and before we knew it we were done. Aly was very surprised when I told her we ran 9 - she thought we barely made it to 8 :)

Ok, so she did get one massive blister, I ended up with AWFUL side effects the rest of that day and she sorta couldn't walk well for the next few days, but we did it!

We spent the afternoon in Georgetown, eating everything because of the run, and some shopping. The line was ridiculously long at Georgetown cupcakes, so we opted for Sprinkles and took our yummy cupcakes to the waterfront to inhale. YUM!

Hanging out at the waterfront looking at the Roosevelt island which
we conquered earlier that morning.

Still hungry (never ends), we hit up Cafe Rio naturally :)

So sad to see her go, but so excited we got to hang out as it was long overdue!
